Jerry Dixon, Jenn Colella, Jason Tam and Tamika Lawrence have been added to the cast of the upcoming Broadway-bound musical If/Then, starring Idina Menzel. The new musical from Next to Normal songwriting team Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey will makes its world premiere at Washington, D.C.’s National Theatre from November 5, 2013 through December 8, followed by a Broadway bow at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on March 4, 2014 (with opening night set for March 27).
Dixon, Colella, Tam and Lawrence join headliner Menzel as well as previously announced cast members LaChanze, Anthony Rapp and James Snyder. Set against the ever-shifting landscape of modern day Manhattan, If/Then tells the story of Elizabeth (Menzel), a woman on the verge of turning 40 who returns to New York City intent on finding a fresh start in life. The show is directed by Rent and Next to Normal helmer Michael Greif.
Dixon appeared in the original Broadway casts of Once on This Island, Five Guys Named Moe, Bright Lights, Big City, tick, tick… BOOM! and Romantic Poetry, among others. Former Broadway.com video blogger Colella was most recently featured in the original Broadway cast of Chaplin; her other Broadway credits include Urban Cowboy and High Fidelity. Tam starred off-Broadway in the recent revival of Marry Me A Little, as well as in Broadway productions of Lysistrata Jones, A Chorus Line and Les Miserables. Lawrence is currently appearing in Matilda on Broadway; her other credits include The Book of Mormon and the off-Broadway revival of Rent.
Original Rent stars Menzel and Rapp aren’t the only reuniting cast members in If/Then. The show marks the third musical in which Dixon and LaChanze have originated roles (they previously starred together in Once on This Island and The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin).
